Situation, when the hotel safe refuses to open, familiar to many travelers. You are in a hurry for an excursion or to the airport, and the documents and money remained locked inside the iron box. The main thing at such a moment is not to panic and not to try to use physical force.

Why is the hotel safe blocked??

Electronic safes in hotels are optimized for ease of use, but this is what sometimes causes crashes. The most common causes of problems:

• Banal forgetfulness: the traveler entered a new code and immediately forgot it or mixed up the numbers.
• Input error: most safes lock for 15-30 minutes, if the wrong code is entered 3 or 5 times in a row.
• Discharged batteries: the power supply of the electronic lock goes down, which can cause the screen to glow, but the power of the mechanism to open the bolts is no longer enough.
• Technical failure of the program: rare, but the problem of outdated models is possible.

Important. Never try to open a safe with knives, nail files, or hitting the body. Modern hotel safes are equipped with a shock protection system, and physical impact will only lock them down, even more securely, and the hotel will bill you.

If the safe does not open, follow simple rules, so as not to make the situation worse:

1. Check that the code is correct. Sometimes in a hurry you can mix up the numbers.
2. Don't forget the confirmation button. Safes of various brands require after entering the code to press a certain button to open - usually it is "#" (grille), «*» (asterisk) or "Lock/Enter".

• Master key. Each hotel safe has a hidden keyhole under the cover on the front panel. The special mechanical key is kept by the head of security or the hotel manager.

When you contact the reception, a technician or security officer is dispatched to your room. The opening procedure takes only a few minutes and is usually completely free, unless you damaged the safe itself.

How to avoid blocking in the future?

To make your travels stress-free, follow simple safety rules when using hotel safes:

• Always write down the set code in your phone's notes (or take a picture of the combination, you just typed).
• Do not use too obvious codes like "1111" or "1234" - some hotel systems automatically block such combinations for security reasons.
• Check the operation of the safe with the door open immediately after check-in. Enter the code, close the "idle" locks and open them again. Only after making sure it works, put valuables in there.
